Summary of the thesis

The thesis explores a new computational method suitable for simulation of non-linear ocean waves and their interaction with offshore structures. The new method is based on radial basis function-generated finite differences (RBF-FD), which provide geometric flexibility and high-order accuracy. However, the geometric flexibility comes at the cost of poor temporal stability, due to the mesh-free nature of RBF-FD. In order to improve the temporal stability, a new stabilization technique has been developed, and in combination with a new node generation and update strategy, the potential of the new computational method has been demonstrated.
